The Best Gift I Didn’t Ask For
Drew has been my best friend ever since I saw her dressed as Hermione, running around at her Harry Potter-themed seventh birthday party. Since that day, we have had endless sleepovers, late night conversations, and shared memories. Ten years later, she fell pregnant, and the course of her life changed forever. This work aims to explore her reality of teenage motherhood: one that defies the stereotype that society place on it. Through my work, I hope to show that Drew is no different from any other mother, just a little younger. I hope to convey the deep love she has for her baby, and the undying commitment she has made to her. I have served as an observer and have documented the day-to-day and aspects of her new life. While these tasks may seem monotonous, I hope that, ultimately, the light of her love shines through.
