Heirlooms: After They Are Gone
My family’s relationships are shaped by shared experiences and history. Family heirlooms and photographs tell our story and allow us to connect to our heritage; however, I question the extent to which we are really defined by these artefacts. I have explored positive and negative aspects of a shared past, including unresolved issues. I focus on intimacies and tensions in the relationships between my mother, my sister, and myself. I have also documented defining aspects of my family, including our history of military service, and the death of my father during my childhood. The importance of remembering the past and its influence on our lives today is evident. I hope to highlight the continual development of our experiences and relationships, as we build on our past.
